Residents of Wajir County were on Sunday, November 29, shocked after a drone believed to be involved in surveillance crash landed in Eldas.

The drone landed sometime in the afternoon, with residents throwing suspicious looks to this strange object, which no one had come to claim.

Reports indicated that it landed next to the newly launched Eldas Airstrip. A call by Kenyans.co.ke to the County government to ascertain its ownership did not bear any fruits.

The grey-coloured object, shaped distinctively like an airplane, had a set of propellers and a rotating knob that according to witnesses resembled a camera.

On November 18, Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana raised concern over what he claimed to be a well-orchestrated espionage activity around his home.

In a statement at the time, the governor stated that he had seen drones hovering about his official residence, and had since reported the matter to the police.

“Electronic gadgets in the house are compromised. As it was during Moi and NCEC, so it is now. I have repeatedly made this public and reported to authorities. I will not be intimidated,” he claimed.

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen raised similar concerns and stated thus:

“Please share the beautiful aerial photos and come home through the main gate for a cup of tea, but make sure you carry your mask. Thank you and God bless,” he stated in a message to drone operators.

The two politicians claimed that they were being targeted for ostensibly opposing the proposals in the Building Bridges Report.

The latest drone incident in Eldas happened just days after area MP Adan Keynan, flanked by Hon Bashir Abdullahi of Mandera North and Fatuma Ibrahim of East Africa Legislative Assembly opened the Eldas airstrip.

"The airstrip will greatly improve the social economic aspect of the area. It will create jobs and open more opportunities from other regions in the Country.

"I was truly impressed on how the good people of Eldas are truly behind the BBI and taking part of the signature collections," stated one of the leaders who attended the event.
