Nandi County Deputy Police Commander David Kirui revealed that Kiprop had threatened to kill his sister Mercy Chebet.

"There was commotion and screams from the police cell only for the student to be found to have committed suicide," explained Kirui.

Residents of Kilibwoni claimed that the 19-year-old is suspected to be a drug addict.

The body of the student was transferred to the Kapsabet County Referral Hospital mortuary with an autopsy to be conducted later.

Police have launched investigations into the incident to determine what drove the student to take his own life.

According to reports, Kiprop had threatened to kill one of the family members after he accused them of neglecting him.

Another student committed suicide at Nandi Police Post back in 2019.

According to statistics, Kenya is among the countries that have seen an increase in the number of suicide cases or people who have contemplated suicide.

Cases of inmates committing suicide in a police cell have been on the rise since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.
