ODM Fines Nairobi MCAs Ksh8M

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) on Thursday, December 3 issued fines to rebellious MCAs for various cases of gross misconduct.

Majority of the MCAs fined were from Nairobi - with Nyamira and Bungoma having two legislators each disciplined by the party.

A letter from the Party's Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna confirmed the disciplinary actions imposed on the 16 MCAs.

"The office of the Secretary-General has this morning received a report by the party's Disciplinary Committee on the hearing and determinations of cases of misconduct by members of county assembly from Nyamira, Bungoma and Nairobi.

"The Disciplinary Committee hearings were conducted under Articles 8.3 and 8.4 of the ODM Constitution and other enabling provisions of the Party Constitution, the Code of Conduct and the laws of Kenya," read part of the letter.

MCAs from Bungoma include Majimbo Okumu, Violet Makhanu with Duke Masira and Callen Atuya are from Nyamira county.

Nairobi county had 12 MCAs including Cecilia Ayot, Wilson Ochola, Nicholas Okumu, Hafsa Khalif, Maurice Gari, Carolyne Mayunzu, Milicent Okatch, David Okello Haji Niko, Redson Otieno, Jared Okode and David Mbithi.

The fines vary from Ksh 100,000 to Ksh1M with the two from Bungoma receiving the least amount of fines alongside Masira. Atuya was fined Ksh500,000, suspended for 3-6 months and barred from holding any office in the party.

Among the MCAs from Nairobi fined Ksh1M include Wilson Ochola, Nicholas Okumu, Maurice Gari, Caroline Mayunzu, Redson Otieno, Jared Okode and David Mbithi.

David Okello was the only MCA fined Ksh750,000 with Millicent Akinyi, Hafsa Khalif and Cecilia Ayot fined Ksh500,000.

Haji Nimo Nairobi Nominated MCA failed to appear before the Committee on account of health with her disciplinary hearings pending.
