President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to proceed on a one month leave after the upcoming Jamhuri day celebrations till mid-January.

This is according to a circular dated Friday, December 4, sent by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and issued to all heads of Diplomatic Missions.

"The Ministry has the honour, therefore, to inform that after the Jamhuri Day Celebrations, from Tuesday, 15th December 2020 to Friday, 15th January 2021, H.E the President will not be available for any official/public engagements including phone call unless they are emergencies," read part of the circular.

The circular further stated that any request towards the head of state should be made through the Principal Secretary or his designated representative.

Foreign Affairs Ministry complimented all diplomatic missions acknowledging that 2020 has been a challenging year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Ministry also noted that the pandemic had necessitated virtual engagements, increasing the workload and making it more complex.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Ambassador Macharia Kamau failed to authenticate the letter noting that such directives are issued by the Head of Public Service.

This comes after Uhuru presided over the launch of Kenya Ni Mimi Youth Campaign, a national platform for the youth to dialogue on the youth agenda and participation in social, economic and democratic processes.

Uhuru engaged in a question and answer session with youths present at the Bomas of Kenya and touched on a number of issues including marriage and militarisation of certain sectors.

The Jamhuri Day celebrations are set to be hosted at the newly refurbished Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi County on Saturday, December 12.
