6 People Killed in Accident Along Nakuru-Eldoret Highway

Four children were among six people killed on Friday night in a head-on collision involving a matatu and a truck about seven kilometers from the infamous Salgaa black spot.

According to Rongai police boss Japheth Kioko, the eleven seater shuttle belonging to Eldoret Crossroads Sacco hit a truck head on as it tried to overtake another vehicle along the busy highway.

“Two women and four children died on the spot during the 9pm accident. The injured were rushed to Nakuru Level Four Hospital,” Mr Kioko stated.

One child succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment. The bodies were moved to the Nakuru County Mortuary.

Salgaa area was declared a black spot for motorists and pedestrians due to the high number of accidents which have occurred in the past leading to deaths of hundreds of people.

In March, three people were killed and two injured when a county vehicle hit a stationary trailer at a parking bay in the area.

On the Eve of Christmas last year, five teenagers died in a car crash at the same spot.
