6 Terror Suspects Arrested in Malindi

Police officers have arrested six suspected terrorists in Malindi during a tight operation carried out ahead of President Uhuru Kenyatta's visit to the Coastal region.

During the Friday night raid, more than 30 heavily armed officers are said to have descended on one household in Old Court where they nabbed the six.

According to witnesses, the security agents who are said to have been in full combat gear gained entry into the house by breaking doors and windows.

The officers attached to the anti-terrorism unit then reportedly ransacked the house before apprehending the occupants.

"They arrived at around 9 pm and conducted a search in the whole house before taking away the relatives,” one of the neighbours disclosed.

Confirming the arrest, Malindi OCPD Matawa Muchangi indicated that more details would be divulged once investigations are conducted.

The incident comes amid heightened security in the Coastal area where President Kenyatta is expected to launch several development projects and host rallies over the weekend.

Kenyatta's schedule will start with a tour of Taita Taveta county where he will receive area senator Dan Mwazo and woman representative Joyce Lay who ditched ODM for Jubilee.

He will then proceed to Mombasa for a mega rally at Tononoka Grounds.
