Chaos erupted at the Kisii County Assembly on Thursday, December 10, prompting the police to lob teargas to disperse MCAs.
A section of the legislators blocked the entrance of the assembly in a supremacy battle between two factions of MCAs over the impeachment of Speaker David Kombo.
Nyamasibi Ward MCA Samson Nyagaka alongside other legislators were teargassed while speaking to the media outside the county assembly.
The group of MCAs were forced to flee from the scene with the reporters and cameramen also taking off as police dispersed the gathering.
The assembly is divided over the impeachment of Kombo with some demanding for his ouster from the Speaker position.
Some of the legislators, however, claim that they are being targeted after raising concerns over the misappropriation of Covid-19 funds allocated to the county.
The MCAs have vowed to move to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to record statements with regards to the embezzlement of funds.
The impeachment of Kombo has been dragging after MCAs arrived at the assembly on Tuesday to discuss the motion, but were told the House was under fumigation.
The motion suffered a setback on Wednesday after MCAs learned that the mace was missing in the House.
The Kisii County Assembly has been marred by chaos in recent weeks after contractors stormed the building in protest on Thursday, December 3.
Business operators accused ward representatives of awarding themselves county tenders. Meanwhile, Kisii County Contractors Association urged the county assembly to clear pending bills before awarding any new jobs.
