A chips vendor has been arrested after he stabbed a customer to death in Makongeni Estate, Homa Bay County, following a heated argument over Ksh50 change.
23-year-old Junior Opiyo and his friends had gone to purchase fries from a vendor within the estate on Tuesday evening, December 15, when the tragic incident happened.
After they had bought the food, they are said to have given the vendor a Ksh100 note and expected to issued with Ksh50 as change.
However, the buyer is said to have taken too long because he did not have the change, something that angered Opiyo and his friends.
They lamented that their time was being wasted and confronted the vendor who then used a kitchen knife to stab the victim.
Asego Sub-location Assistant Chief Tom Ondiek confirmed the incident saying that he had been contacted by residents after the fight between the two parties escalated.
"When I got to the scene, I saw a group of youth who helped the deceased board a motorbike and rushed him to hospital. At the time, he was bleeding on his neck," Ondiek stated.
Unfortunately, the victim died when undergoing treatment at the St Paul’s Mission Hospital in Homa Bay Town.
The suspect has since been arrested and taken to Homa Bay Police Station.
Homa Bay Sub-County Police Commander Sammy Koskey indicated that the suspect will be charged with murder.
