The Chief serjeant-at-arms at the Senate in Nairobi Joel Nkubitu was on Sunday night, January 3, rushed to hospital after he accidentally shot himself.

Nkubitu is alleged to have been in a traffic jam in Thika town when two men aboard a motorcycle approached him before they snatched his mobile phone from him.

Alarmed, Nkubitu allegedly drew his gun in an attempt to scare the suspects but in the process accidentally shot himself on the thigh.

Nkubitu, who is a licensed gun holder, is currently receiving treatment and is in a stable condition.

Police have since launched investigations into the matter.

Elsewhere, a Mwea GK Prison warder shot and killed a police officer attached to Kirinyaga East DCC before turning the gun on himself in what is suspected to be a love triangle.

A police report indicated that Kering Kipkoskei, an officer at the prison, visited his girlfriend Sergent Esther Muthoni Mwangi's home and was having supper together with her children.

Muthoni's ex-husband would later enter the house and started a confrontation with Kipkosgei. He wanted to know what he was doing in the house.

“Bonface Mithamo Ngarariga started beating Kering Kipkosgei and removed his shirt. Sergeant Esther Muthoni Mwangi, the house owner, separated them and got hold of Boniface Mithamo and escorted him outside the house.

"On reaching at the kitchen pc Kering Kipkosgei who was armed with a Ceska pistol serial no h1717 withdrew his firearm and shot cpl Bonface Mithamo from the right side of the neck and bullet exited on the left side of the head. After realizing that he had fatally shot him he ran outside and shot himself on the head," the police report read in part.

The two were rushed to Kariru Mission Hospital where they were pronounced dead.
