Police in Naivasha have raised alarm over rising cases of stage-managed robberies on major highways and roads in the region.

A report by People Daily on Wednesday, January 6, indicated that a number of unscrupulous truck drivers have been colluding with criminals to execute planned robberies on the trucks.

According to the police, the cases are most prevalent along Nakuru-Nairobi Highway as well as the Naivasha-Mai Mahiu road.

The matter was brought to the fore by Naivasha OCPD Samwel Waweru who carried out investigations along Nakuru-Nairobi highway following an incident where robbers allegedly stole goods worth Ksh10 million from a truck.

The truck driver informed the police boss that he a car full of robbers blocked his way, before executing the robbery. The police have however having doubts based on the recorded statements.

"We have seen a trend where drivers are selling goods on transit, and later stage-managing a robbery along the major roads," stated Waweru in his findings.

The robbery cases seem to have been on the rise after long waits at border points caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The case comes at a time when robberies targeting packed cars are also on the rise across the country with two suspects taken into police custody over the incidents.

The two were arrested by Police in Naivasha after they were suspected to run a robbery ring that led to the spike of the cases.

They were arrested in Nairobi after a manhunt following the theft of a car belonging to a businessman in Naivasha.

Waweru noted that the two suspects were being grilled by the police to help with the investigations in the incident.

The ring is said to target cars packed inside residential estates with five having been vandalised in Naivasha area alone.
