The eldest son of a couple in Karura village, Kiambu, that was murdered alongside three family members, has been reported missing.

Kiambu County Commissioner Wilson Wanyanga said that the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Jkuat) has been missing since his family members were found murdered.

The commissioner added that the student's phone had been off since then, something that had caused the family to worry.

The missing son had his phone switched off in Naivasha where the detectives' main suspect's phone was last tracked.

Wanyaga, however, assured that two daughters of the slain couple that had reported to school were safe.

Preliminary investigations show that Njoroge Warunge, an American-based nurse Njoroge Warunge was stabbed 34 times after watching his wife and two children killed.

Warunge is suspected to have jumped from the balcony of the house to escape but the killers, unfortunately, caught up with him.

The County Commissioner presumed that the killers could have used someone close to the family to access the compound.

"The house is well fenced with a perimeter wall and razor wire and there was no sign the killers struggled to gain entry by breaking in. There is no doubt that the killers used someone close to the family to gain access to the house."

Local residents indicated that there was a Toyota Probox and a motorcycle parked outside the murdered couple’s home but they did not record the number plates.

Police have ruled out robbery since nothing was stolen from the house.

Homicide detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters believe there were at least five attackers in the house.

Post mortem examinations on the bodies of the five are expected to be conducted on Monday.
