Former Citizen TV and K24 boss Peter Opondo has landed a job at the Standard Media Group.
In an internal memo seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the Group Chief Executive Officer Orlando Lyomu announced that Opondo will be the Strategy and Content Editor, Broadcast for the Standard Group PLC.
Opondo will be in charge of editorial content in all the Standard Group's broadcast properties.
"In pursuit of the business growth and alignment with new business environment, I am pleased to announce that the appointment will take effect from 1st February 2021," reads an excerpt of the memo.
The renowned journalist, who was previously at Mediamax Network Limited as the Head of TV and Digital, took a break from media last year.
Opondo resigned at a time when journalists at the station had been subjected to a 50 percent salary cut to keep the company afloat in the wake of Covid-19.
The pay cuts led to a highly publicised disagreement between the management and journalists, with some claiming the debacle may have led to Opondo's resignation.
"I applaud the teams, especially anchors, for holding a straight face - and even smiling - when there was a literal fire under your seats!" read an excerpt of Opondo's message to the journalists as he resigned.
Before his two-year stint at K24, Opondo worked at the Royal Media Services as the Editorial Director.
He has over 18 years experience in broadcast, print and digital media.
Opondo holds a Bachelor of Education degree in Mathemantics and Economics from Moi University, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Strathmore University and a Senior Management Leadership Program (SMLP) Graduate from Strathmore University.
At the same time, KTN reporter Franklin Wallah has moved to K24 TV.
Wallah will be the Senior Crimes and Investigative reporter.
