ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi on Friday, February 5, spoke out following reports that President Uhuru Kenyatta's inner circle has been pushing to endorse the ANC leader as the 2022 presidential candidate.

Speaking in Vihiga, Mudavadi stated that he was not waiting to be handed the presidency by the Head of State asserting that he was ready to fight it out at the ballot.

"It is time for transition from Uhuru to Mudavadi. Let us not wait to be endorsed," he stated.

Mudavadi urged his constituents to get identity cards and register as voters and not to be swayed by other politicians.

"It is through the people that one gets elected. Be careful at the ballot. Do not vote blindly because leadership is not about dishing out handouts, insulting others and dancing on the podium," he warned.

The ANC leader reiterated that he would revive the economy as well as intensify the fight against corruption if he clinched the presidential seat.

"We are in debt to the tune of Sh8.3 trillion. More debt leads to higher taxation, hence an increase in the prices of essential commodities. We need leaders who will strive to correct this as the government," he added.

Mudavadi was responding to media reports that indicated that some powerful forces are working on an elaborate scheme to have a strong candidate against Deputy President William Ruto.

It was alleged that secret meetings by the president's close allies had been held to explore the pros and cons of having Mudavadi as a candidate.
