4 More Deaths As Covid-19 Cases Rise

A total of 144 individuals have tested positive for Covid-19 from a sample size of 2,917 tested in the last 24 hours. This takes Kenya's cumulative confirmed positive cases to 103,188.

In a statement on Wednesday, February 17, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe disclosed that the total number of tests conducted stand at 1,249,196.

From the positive cases recorded in the last 24 hours, 119 are Kenyans while 25 are foreigners. 102 are male while 42 are female.

The youngest case is of a nine-year-old child, while the oldest is 79 years.

Sadly, 4 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours, pushing the total number of fatalities in the country to 1,797.

55 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus. 29 are from various health facilities across the country, while 26 are from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

The total recoveries now stand at 85,391.

There are 267 patients currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 1,187 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care. 43 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 20 of whom are on ventilatory support and 18 on supplemental oxygen.

Five patients are on observation. Another five patients are separately on supplementary oxygen with all of them in the general wards.

In terms of County distribution; Nairobi 73, Busia 17, Mombasa14, Kiambu 8, Machakos 6, Kericho 6, Kajiado 4, Meru 4, Homa Bay 2, Kisumu 2, Kitui 2, Murang'a 2, Kilifi 1, Kisii 1, Migori 1 and Siaya 1.

In terms of Sub County distribution; the 73 cases in Nairobi are from Kibra (14), Westlands (11), Dagoretti North (7), Mathare and Starehe (5) cases each, Lang'ata, Roysambu and Ruaraka (4) cases each, Embakasi Central and Kasarani (3) cases each, Dagoretti South, Embakasi East, Embakasi South, Embakasi West, Kamukunji and Makadara (2) cases each, Embakasi North (1).

In Busia all the 17 cases are from Matayos. In Mombasa the 14 cases are from Likoni (12), Changamwe and Mvita (1) case each. In Kiambu the 8 cases are from Kiambu Town (3), Kiambaa and Kikuyu (2) cases each, Ruiru (1). In Machakos the 6 cases are from Athi River (3), Machakos (2) and Mwala (1). In Kericho all the 6 cases are from Ainamoi. In Kajiado all the 4 cases are from Kajiado North, while in Meru the 4 cases are all from lgembe Central.

The 2 cases in Homa Bay are all from Homa bay Town, the 2 cases in Kisumu are from Kisumu East and Nyando (1) case each, the 2 cases in Kitui are from Kitui Central and Mwingi Central (1) case each, while the 2 cases in Murang'a are all from Kangema.

The case in Kilifi is from Malindi, the case in Kisii is from Kitutu Chache South, the case in Migori is from Kuria West and the case in Siaya is from Aego Usonga.
