Former President Daniel arap Moi's son, Philip Moi, has finally agreed to pay his ex-wife Rossana Pluda part of Ksh1.8 million overdue alimony to avoid a looming jail term.

The revelation was made before Justice Aggrey Muchelule, ahead of a court hearing on Thursday, February 25.

In the court hearing, Muthaiga Police Station OCS was required to answer to charges against him for failure to arrest Philip following an arrest warrant issued in April 2019.

The couple divorced in 2008 and fought all the way to the Court of Appeal which ruled in favor of Pluda. The agreement between the two was that the Ksh1.8 million be paid before March 29, 2019.

Philip did not hold his end of the deal - prompting the court to issue an arrest warrant.

The arrest warrant was issued after Pluda filed a complaint in court seeking the arrest of Senator Gideon Moi's brother.

According to papers filed by Pluda’s lawyer, Senior Counsel Judy Thongori, she wanted the court to sentence Philip to jail, arguing that he had no intention of paying the money.

"That I verily believe that it is in the interest of justice that the respondent is committed to civil jail," Pluda said.

Pluda, together with her lawyer had earlier declined a request from Philip to settle the debt in Ksh500,000 installments in an agreed period of time. Despite them declining, Philip wrote the two a letter saying that he would go as per his request.

Philip urged the court to declare him bankrupt in 2012, saying that he was unable to meet his ex-wife’s demands along with other accrued debts. He added that he was living with the aid of his rich relatives.

However, Pluda disagreed with Philip’s claims, saying he was living a lavish life as well as that he owned multi-billion property and businesses which are registered under friends and family members.
