Business premises along Ronald Ngala Road in Nairobi were on Wednesday, March 3, brought down.
The structures housed close to 30 stalls which were demolished and left traders counting loses.
In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, a bulldozer could be seen at the scene bringing down the structures as the traders watched helplessly. Some of the traders could be seen trying to salvage what had been left of their property.
Before any demolition is conducted, a notice is given by the County Government to enable the evictees plan themselves better.
Traders faced the same fate in 2018 after a Nairobi building at the centre of an ownership dispute was demolished.
At the time, the traders blamed the county saying officers should have been given time to remove their property.
Meanwhile, on Monday, February 8, Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) boss Mohammed Badi announced plans to demolish houses in some Nairobi Estates.
NMS indicated that plans to demolish houses in Kibra were at an advanced stage. The demolition would help to pave way for the construction of a 28km road.
The NMS boss gave the individuals whose structures stood on a road reserve to bring them down promising to make good the demolition promise once the notice expires.
“I am calling upon the owners of the houses to demolish their structures themselves because no one will be spared. We will not be biased... whether the house is built using stones, mud or iron sheets."
