NTV, a channel under the Nation Media Group, treated their viewers to an unusual live news bulletin on Saturday, March 6.
The bulletin was shot on a boat on the Indian Ocean away from the normal studio productions.
"We are aboard a boat on the Indian ocean at the port of Mombasa where we are going to be having our bulletin from. They say that being on the road is at times too mainstream. So, we decided to get into the waters," Dan Mwangi, a news anchor introduced the bulletin.
Mwangi stated that the team was looking to cover a number of stories in the Coastal region as well as feature the blue economy.
The anchor promised viewers that much more information would be relayed on subsequent bulletins.
Amid the bulletin, Mwangi had to explain to the viewers why the video was not stable saying, "If you see us shaking a bit, kindly understand it's because we are on the waters. It's natural, kindly do not think it's an earthquake."
The station has a number of bulletins produced outside the studio with one of their famous ones being 'NTV on the road.'
On the series, the news anchors were tasked with conducting the bulletin in different parts of Kenya, and quite literally, alongside the roads.
In any news production, creativity is key as it breaks the everyday monotony and retains viewership. The director has to come up with ways to keep the audience glued to the channel.
Avid TV news consumers may notice that the flow of the bulletin in any given station is switched up, with directors sometimes showing an aerial view of the studio, the headlines being read first and so on, just to make the show interesting.
