The United States through its Europe and Africa Army contingents has unveiled a project valued at Ksh438 million targeting 3,000 Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers.

A statement released on Tuesday, March 9, indicated that the project, a Simulator Facility, was launched by Maj. Gen. Andrew M. Rohling, the US Army Southern European Task Force, Africa commander during his recent tour in the country.

The facility is being constructed at Kenya Army School of Infantry in Isiolo and will be expected to provide training to 3,000 KDF officers every year.

Speaking during the launch, Rohling noted that he was impressed by the partnership between Kenya and the United States.

"The US Army remains committed to the KDF by building interoperability among our troops and improving military institutions.

"I am proud of the work the US Army has done to assist the KDF, and I look forward to the future opportunities that will build upon our longstanding partnership," he stated.

The project is expected to significantly improve the quality of training at the institution ahead of deployment to combat operations.

"The United States stands shoulder to shoulder with Kenya in our mutual objective to keep Kenyans and Americans safe through support and cooperation across all branches of the Kenya Defence Forces, including annual education and training, shared intelligence and surveillance, joint military exercises, high quality military equipment, and pandemic response," read the statement in part.

Rohling made the launch during his tour in the country between Tuesday, March 2 and Friday, March 5.

During the tour, he held meetings at Kenya Army Headquarters with Deputy Army Commander, Maj. Gen. Albert Kendagor to discuss strategic security cooperation initiatives.

He also visited the KDF Wellness Centre at Langata Barracks and met wounded KDF service members.
