Kenyan Journalist Quits BBC After 3 Years

Makena Njeri, an actress and journalist with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Africa has quit after three years 

The producer shared the announcement on her social media pages on March 9.

Njeri has worked with BBC for the past 3 years reporting and running youth programs.

"Every beautiful story has a beginning and a powerful ending. This has been my journey working at BBC for the last three years," she wrote.

Makena further acknowledged the growth she has experienced while working at the international media house. 

"This beautiful journey made me achieve great excellence doing stories that constantly hit millions and high audience engagement in different platforms," she added.

Njeri also shared the milestones she was able to achieve as a journalist with BBC.

"I worked in a program BBC What's new that inspired the youth in Africa to reach for the stars and everything is possible through the stories we told. We got nominated for the Emmys in 2019, such a great milestone for me as a journalist on the team," the post read.

The renowned actress expressed her gratitude to the corporation citing that she leaves with life-changing lessons.

“I leave with so many memories. As a journalist and as an individual, I will forever be grateful to BBC for the opportunity of a lifetime,” she added.

The journalist shared her optimism to step into the next stage in her life saying that she is ready for the next challenge. “We stay winning and elevating always.”

She is an addition to the list of Kenyan journalists who have resigned from international jobs. Dennis Okari, an NTV investigator also resigned from BBC and returned to the Nation Media Group station. 

Jason Warungu who had worked for twenty years at BBC quit to mentor young journalists. Jeff Koinange, a Citizen TV news anchor resigned from NBS news in the US.
