The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) CEO Ezekiel Mutua has gone after media personality Betty Kyalo's new show on KTN following alleged complaints over its promotional poster.
In a press statement, Mutua took issue with the show rated 18 and above years airing at 8 pm. He stated that the rating should apply to content being aired within the watershed period.
He, therefore, raised the matter with Standard Group Management and got clarification on the matter.
"The 18+ refers to the age of the participants, not the nature of the content. This is a live show on KTN Home and we have assurance from the MD Joe Munene that no adult or explicit content will be permitted," reads the statement.
Mutua directed that the poster, which indicated that viewers should be 18 years and above, should be pulled down.
"The content will fully comply with the stipulations of the Films and Stage Plays Act Cap 222 as well as the Kenya Information and Communications Act (KICA) and the Programming Code," the two parties clarified.
He went ahead and expressed gratitude to the members of the public who had brought the issue to his attention.
Kyallo will be hosting a show by the name 'The Big Quiz' on KTN Home alongside comedian Eric Omondi.
Mutua's action came days after detectives arrested Omondi for alleged production of unauthorized content. Omondi has since apologised and KFCB has withdrawn the case against Omondi.
On her part, Kyallo will be going back to the station, two years after she left and went to K24 TV. At K24, she hosted Upclose With Betty before quitting on Saturday night, May 30, 2020.
