Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha on Wednesday, March 17, signed a deal with Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya whereby the county government handed 40 acres of land to Kenya Coast National Polytechnic for Maritime Services.

Governor Mvurya handed over the title deed to Principal Secretary Margaret Mwakima for the construction of maritime functions and transport services in Kwale county. This, CS Magoha claimed, was in a bid to boost maritime services within the country.

Kenya Coast National Polytechnic is a technical institution that currently offers marine engineering course for students who wish to craft architects design, oversee testing, installation, and repair of marine apparatus and equipment.

CS Magoha thereafter toured Sparki Primary school, Mombasa County where he advised the students to desist from cheating in the forthcoming exams.

He said that teachers handling exams will adhere to Covid-19 guidelines and protocols to enable the health and safety of all candidates.

The news comes as the education ministry affirmed its preparations for the national examinations under the Covid-19 regulations issued by the Ministry of Health.

This has seen key stakeholders in the education sector among them Magoha and Education and Youth Office Director Lilian Gangla visit various schools in a bid to assess its preparedness.

Further, he encouraged candidates not to panic due to the national examinations despite the nine-month hiatus experienced since the onset of the virus.

"Do not worry about the examination. We are aware you were at home for nine months, so your hope must remain alive.

"Do not get stressed. If you believe in God, you will all pass,”  Magoha previously stated during a tour at Chavakali High School, Vihiga County.

The national examinations are scheduled to begin in the final week of March with the KCPE exams slated to commence on Monday, March 22, 2021, while KCSE is set to commence on Friday, March 26, 2021, and end on Wednesday, April 21, 2021.
