Education CS George Magoha has issued a directive in regards to KCSE and KCPE candidates who may be pregnant, and others who will require special attention to sit their exams.
While speaking in Mombasa, Prof Magoha stated that all students including those that are pregnant, the sick, and disabled, would be given special treatment to ensure they comfortably sit for the national exams without any problems.
"Any child who has the capacity to sit for the exams, the government will ensure that the examination is taken to the child," he disclosed.
He added that they would follow the process as previous years noting that the Ministry had ensured school children with special needs sat the exams.File image of KCSE students preparing for an examFile
"This is not the first time, and we are not inventing anything. The numbers may be more than the previous years, but we are well prepared to see that every child who is able to, sits for the exams," he added.
He noted that those who will not be physically able to sit for the exams will have to register and sit the following year.
The 2019 examinations saw dozens of candidates give birth during the national exams. Some of the cases were reported in Bomet, Baringo, and Meru counties, with the students allowed to take their tests while in the hospital rooms.
In 2018, Kitui county reported having 72 KCSE candidates who were pregnant at the time of the examinations.
At the time, the county recorded the highest number of pregnancies among students sitting the exam.
The national examinations are slated to commence in the final week of March. with the KCPE exams slated to commence on Monday, March 22, 2021, with their KCSE counterparts set to commence on Friday, March 26, 2021, and end on Wednesday, April 21, 2021.
The Education CS earlier warned candidates over a plan to use masks to cheat in the national examinations.
Speaking on March 9, Magoha pointed out that the ministry was aware that some candidates intend to write down answers on face masks which are mandatory as part of the measures put in place to curb the spread of covid-19.
"We know that some of you are planning to use masks to cheat. Do not make such attempts because we shall frisk you and if caught, it's up to you," he warned the candidates.
