President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday, March 23, condoled family, relatives and friends of Waweru and describes him as a seasoned public servant who left a mark of excellence wherever he served.

“It is unfortunate that we have lost one of Kenya's most seasoned administrators. Mr Waweru's commitment, personal discipline and loyalty to the country saw him rise through the ranks to be become a top public administrator.

"As the ruling Jubilee Party, we've lost a trusted, loyal and efficient leader whose contribution, as the most senior executive, has ensured our stability and progress," the President, who is also the Jubilee Party Leader, eulogised.

Waweru died on Tuesday, March 23, while receiving treatment at the Karen Hospital.

Jubilee Secretary-General Raphael Tuju has confirmed Waweru's death, mourning him as a man who provided sober, reliable and dependable leadership.

"He has been an embodiment of reason, always a voice of reason and a father figure who will be greatly missed," reads an excerpt of the statement i part.

The deceased previously served as Sports Permanent Secretary and Nairobi PC during former President Mwai Kibaki's regime.

Before that, he had an impeccable career in the civil service, where he rose through the ranks to the level of Provincial Commissioner, Nairobi Province.

He is survived by a wife, Cecilia Muthoni, sons, Victor Waweru, Martin Murage and Ian Wamunyu and daughters, Eddah Waweru and Abi Murage.

In February 2020, Waweru took over the operations of the party at a time when Tuju was unwell.

Following his death, ODM leader Raila Odinga has condoled with the family of Waweru.

"May Almighty God grant his family, friends, and colleagues courage to bear with the loss, and may He Rest in Peace," Odinga stated.

Waweru's body has been taken to the Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi.
