A post by a parody account with the name 'Kenya Police' went viral on Friday, March 26, following President Uhuru Kenyatta's address.
The parody asked Nairobians to be home by 8 pm on the same day, failure to which, they would face the consequences.
The post attracted backlash among some individuals who argued that the police had not understood the President's directive which stipulated that the new measures would be enforced from Saturday, March 27.
In a rejoinder, however, the verified Kenya Police account asked citizens to ignore any message passed from the parody account.
"We are aware of a parody account whose admin tweeted misleading information this evening. Please note that the hours of the ongoing nationwide curfew are revised to commence at 8:00 pm and end at 4:00 am daily in the zoned area effective tomorrow Saturday, 27th day of March 2021," reads the post.
Most Kenyans responding to the verified account which indicated that the parody was more entertaining and interactive.
"The kitaeleweka isn't misinformation. You like harassing citizens for the flimsiest of reasons. Kenyans would much rather not contend with the police even in genuine emergencies," John Kikonu stated.
"We can't ignore it. He is interesting. We will come here for normal boring official news, and go there for entertainment," another stated.
During his address to the Country on Friday, March 26, the President reminded law enforcement officers to live true to their oath of office and discharge their duties without fear or favour in enforcing the containment measures.
"Fellow Kenyans, I am confident, that working together, we, as a government upholding our duty of care to you, our citizens; and you, as citizens, responding by exercising your civic responsibility, we will defeat this Third Wave of Covid.
"We will defeat it because we all did our part to the best of our ability,' the Head of State said.
Police will be expected to maintain the new curfew hours as well as the cessation of movement by road, rail or air into and out of the disease-infected counties of Nairobi, Kajiado, Machakos, Kiambu and Nakuru.
