An interview between Citizen TV news anchor Waihiga Mwaura and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has elicited sharp debate, particularly on social media where Kenyans expressed their opinion on Kalonzo's responses.
The interview session held on Tuesday, March 30, centered majorly on the One Kenya Alliance political outfit formed by Kalonzo and his allies (Gideon Moi, Moses Wetang'ula, and Musalia Mudavadi) as well as his Presidential aspirations come 2022.
"Should you find yourself in State House as the President, in the first 100 days, what would be your priorities?" Waihiga asked.
"I will answer that question in the next interview because I think you're already tiring your viewers, but I can tell you the first 100 days would be phenomenal, a number of people would be in jail, sorry I'm not trying to scare anybody but if you're going to fight corruption, you will need to set things right," Kalonzo retorted, a response which most Kenyans found rather amusing.
Kalonzo also affirmed that the One Kenya Alliance would be the key to fight corruption and help restore confidence among Kenyans who he claimed had lost hope in the government of the day.
He commended the forward-thinking approach of his alliance adding that President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga were invited to join the new political formation.
However, Kalonzo remained tight-lipped on the issue of whether the 'Deep State' is backing the One Kenya Alliance in a bid to oust Raila Odinga out of the 2022 equation.
"That is speculative, so I don't think I need to answer that. I don't want to engage in such semantics," he stated.
The interview did not sit well with a section of Kenyans and politicians who felt that the Wiper leader was circumventing around responses.
"Kalonzo is so scattered in his thinking you can’t place him anywhere ideologically. One minute he is this way and the next minute that way," Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen stated.
"I am just wondering if we are related with Kalonzo. I too used to create my own questions and answer them if the assignment was difficult back then when I was schooling.
"It seems he never pictured himself as president. The question caught him off guard," Kenyans online pondered.
The leader has been on the spot in the past over what many terms watermelon tactics due to his tentative ways. This has seen many skeptics question his Presidential ambitions for the country.
