Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi has threatened to file a petition aimed at compelling former News anchor Hussein Mohammed to return to Citizen TV.
In a statement, Havi admitted that he had missed Mohammed's straight-pointed interview technique that kept guests on the edge of their seats and viewers glued.
He further noted that he regarded Hussein's 10-year-stay at the station as a public service.
"We need Hussein Mohammed back on Citizen TV to deal with a serious program like News Night. I am prepared to go get a court order to compel him to return to public service," stated Havi.
Havi also created a poll asking Kenyans whether he should get the court order to have the former anchor grace our screens and received over 3,700 responses.
58 per cent of the respondents urged him to do it right away, 14 percent urged him to rush while 27.9 percent were of the view that he was already too late.
Our attempts to get hold of Havi to explain whether the Kenyan law can allow him to petition Mohammed to return on TV bore no fruit.
Hussein resigned from the station in October 2019, on his own volition, after spending 10 years on the screen.
At the time, Hussein explained that he was taking the break from air to concentrate on other matters.
Kenyans.co.ke has since established that the journalist moved into consultancy and is part of a new project funded by the US government through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The anchor joined the organisation known as Resilience Learning Activity (RLA) as an individual consultant. Mohammed runs a media company called Iris Media.
During his departure from Citizen TV, various politicians, some of whom appeared on his show, sent heartfelt messages some of which were shared on the screen on his final day at the station.
“He asked questions that interviewees would sometimes find persistent, but Hussein would dig in," stated former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
