A committee constituted by the Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS) has warned of a crop of conmen invading the newly built Greenpark terminus.

Speaking to the press on Thursday, April 8, the committee reported that the conmen had already begun selling stage slots to matatus ahead of the terminus official opening.

It further warned that the terminus would be operated by NMS and that no sacco or individual matatu line would claim ownership on a section of the terminus.

"I would like to issue a warning to the conmen who think they must be included in all discussion touching on the matatu industry to make it legit. Let me warn those individuals who have been making rounds around here, if you see any of the individuals, please report them to a police station.

"They have lied to many people and have been collecting money while promising slots. No slots here will be owned," Stanley Mukuri advised.

Mukuri is one of the members of the committee constituted to oversee the terminus' operations.

Another member assured both matatu operators and commuters that the terminus will not experience congestion once opened.

He explained that blocks had been erected at the stages and that all matatus would only be allowed a limited amount of time at the picking points.

"There will be no congestion at all because matatu will only be permitted to pick passengers when its turn comes. When it arrives at the stage, it will stop for a limited amount of time.

"They won't be at the stage until they are full to capacity. We cannot allow prolonged wait yet each route will only have one stage. Hooting and touting will not be allowed," corroborated Carlving Calbright

Towards the end of March, Traders, formerly based around Lunar Park have accused the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) of not considering new business opportunities that have arisen due to the construction of the Greenpark Matatu Terminus.

NMS officers are said to have benefitted from the formal allocation of business premises within the bus terminus at Railway Club.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga already took a tour around the terminus and gave it a clean bill of health.
