Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) has announced a new schedule for rail commuters from five estates in Nairobi County.
In a statement shared on Monday, May 3, KRC announced that it was resuming evening travel to Syokimau, Kikuyu, Ruiru, Athi River and Embakasi Village stations.
The new schedule indicates that a train to Syokimau is set to depart at 5:30pm and 6:20pm while that headed to Kikuyu station would leave at 5:35pm.
Other routes are: Ruiru station at 5:40pm; to Athi River station at 5:50pm; to Embakasi Village station at 6:00pm, 6:30 pm, and 8:00pm.
"This evening we resume normal service on the Nairobi Commuter Rail Service... The Link train to Nairobi Terminus departs at 8:00 pm," read the statement in part.
The corporation had revised travel hours around Nairobi On March 26 after President Uhuru Kenyatta put five counties, including the capital city under lockdown.
Most of the travel hours had been pushed up to depart way earlier in the day while the Standard Gauge Railway's operations were halted for a month.
Commuter trains plying the Nairobi Terminus to Ngong station route had been readjusted to ensure that passengers alight at the station at 7 pm in order to beat the 8 pm deadline curfew.
After President Uhuru Kenyatta lifted the cessation of movement in the Counties of Nairobi, Machakos, Kajiado, Kiambu and Nakuru during the Labour day celebrations on Saturday, KRC resumed the SGR services between Nairobi and Mombasa.
A statement released on Sunday, May 2 by the corporation indicated that the SGR the online booking platform was opened to the public for the purchase of tickets.
KRC also affirmed that it had waived the rescheduling fee for travellers whose bookings were cancelled due to the lockdown announced on March 26.
Uhuru also revised the curfew hours from 8 pm to 4 am to 10 pm to 4 am. He noted that the new directives were due to the flattening of the Covid-19 positivity curve in the past month.
