An autopsy carried out on the body of Somali-American businessman Bashir Mohamed Mohamud on Monday, May 24 revealed that he died of strangulation.
According to the post mortem results conducted by government pathologist Johansen Oduor at Umash funeral home, Nairobi County, Bashir's body showed signs of torture, including multiple wounds on the head caused by blunt objects as well as burn wounds on the body.
"His body showed trauma on the head, burns on his body, there's evidence of torture on his toes and knees. The postmortem was done in the presence of police officers from Dagoretti and officers from the Forensic Department of the DCI.
"What we hope from here on is that a proper inquest will be done," the family's lawyer Charles Madowo informed the press.
The businessman made headlines after he went missing on Thursday, May 13 and his Range Rover was later found burnt at Ngong Forest, Kajiado County.
His body was later found at Kerugoya Level 5 hospital after being positively identified by the family members who issued a statement through Madowo.
"It is with heavy hearts that the family of Bashir Mohamed Mohamud informs you that the body of Bashir was found earlier today at Kerugoya Level 5 hospital.
"As the family processes this tragic news and plan for his burial, they request that they be accorded privacy.
"Even as Bashir rests, the family shall not rest until justice has been served and those responsible for his death brought to book," part of the statement read.
Further, CCTV had emerged showing Bashir interacting with five unidentified men at Miale Lounge, Lavington. Minutes later, the businessman proceeded to leave the premises.
Bashir was a structural engineer and the director of Infinity Development Company which primarily deals with providing architectural services.
Among the projects, Bashir's company worked on included the Ksh600 million Uhuru Business Park in Kisumu.
