A Member of the County Assembly in Homa Bay is on the radar after two doctors claimed that they were beaten and injured by him.
A report by Daily Nation on Monday, June 28 indicated that the nominated MCA stormed Rachuonyo South Sub-county Hospital with rowdy youth in tow and caused a fracas.
Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) had challenged the County Government of Homa Bay to intervene.
The MCA and his gang caused a fracas at the facility on the morning of Thursday, June 24, leaving two nursing injuries.
One of the affected doctors, the sub-county Medical Officer of Health Thadeus Owiti, explained that he was pinned down after the staff were ambushed during a meeting at the hospital.
"The MCA broke my phone and some chairs in the room. He pinned me down and started kicking me," stated the doctor.
KMPDU branch chairman Steve Onyango and Secretary Aggrey Nyabuti, in a press conference on Thursday, noted that medics had suffered attacks in the past.
They called upon the police and the county officials to intervene and stop the vice.
They claimed that MCAs from the county were increasingly invading doctor's work with the aim of dictating what they should do.
In response, Rachuonyo South Police Commander Lilies Wachira confirmed that officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had taken over investigations into the matter.
KMPDU officers also decried challenges faced by medical personnel including delayed payment and mental health issues.
In mid-June, Lydia Wahura, a medical student at the University of Nairobi College of Health Sciences, was found dead in her car at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) parking lot.
She highlighted challenges in the last note she left before hanging herself.
