New details have emerged on a last minute phone call Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka made in an effort to restore the highly anticipated Ukambani trip by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

A report by NTV on Tuesday, July 6, indicated that since Uhuru had postponed a trip to the region twice after fallout between its leaders.

It all began when the Head of State cancelled a trip aimed at launching two projects between Monday, June 28 and Tuesday, June 29.

Uhuru was to tour Konza Techno City which is ready for investors where his visit was expected to give a stamp of authority. He was also expected to visit Thwake Dam.

In his cancellation, a new date of between Tuesday, July 6, and Wednesday, July 7, was set but it was also cancelled indefinitely at the last minute.

Shortly after the announcement, media became awash with theories including a feud between Musyoka and Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua that might have stalled the plans.

Uhuru was set to visit the three counties, Kitui, Machakos and Makueni for two days.

Sources inside State House claimed that Uhuru was disappointed with the wrangle that emerged between the four leaders Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Governors Alfred Mutua (Machakos), Charity Ngilu (Kitui) and Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni).

It was further alleged that Wiper politicians wanted the development tour centered around Kalonzo Musyoka whereas the three governors were leaning towards showcasing their development records and projects.

An official statement by the Head of State communications team had, however, explained that the cancellation came about due to Covid-19 risk.

After the tour was postponed indefinitely, leaders embark on talks prompting calls from Musyoka to the President to set a date for the visit.

A statement from State House Nairobi confirmed that President Uhuru Kenyatta met Ukambani leaders led by Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Kitui County Governor Charity Ngilu, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua, Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo, Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua, Machakos Senator Agnes Kavindu, Makueni Deputy Governor Adelina Mwau, Machakos Deputy Governor Eng. Francis Maliti.

The team settled on Friday, July 9, which will be a one-day trip.
