An elderly woman made a teary-eyed appeal to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji regarding her brother's case.

The DPP and his team were on a tour in the coastal region on Wednesday, July 7, where he met the woman while interacting with members of the public.

In tears, the elderly woman pleaded with the DPP to review her brother's rape case whom she claimed had not been released from jail.

DPP Haji directed his team to review the documents presented by the woman and informed her that the case would be looked into.

Since his appointment into office, the DPP has spoken publicly on the need to foster good relations with Kenyans to help in the delivery of justice.

In September 2020, Haji revealed that the prosecuting authority had recovered Ksh2.9 billion from wealthy Kenyans.

The money was retrieved from individuals involved in corruption scandals that had been on the rise in the country especially involving government departments.

Haji revealed that there were individuals who had volunteered and come forth to work out a plea bargain with the ODPP.

"There has been quite a number who have come forth with plea bargains, some will be surprised that it has happened in some of the big cases.

"Just before the end of the year, treasury allowed ODPP to have its own prosecution fund and I'm happy to say that in that prosecution fund we have almost Ksh2.9 billion returned," he stated

Haji also noted that those found guilty of corruption charges will incur heavy penalties as the authority steps up its efforts in fighting corruption.
