Reports indicate a cache of explosives was discovered by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Saturday evening, July 10.  It has been revealed that the explosives, weighing a total of 25 kgs, were headed towards Moyale disguised as spare parts.

The investigation unit discovered the explosives which were hidden in a bus located at Eastleigh in Nairobi. 

Police Commander of Pangani Police Station Julius Kiragu reported that a suspect was arrested.

In June, 2021, an unexploded bomb was discovered in Soit Pus area in Samburu Central Sub County on Saturday evening, June 5.

The bomb was discovered by children who were herding goats in the area located approximately one kilometre from their home.

The children raised suspicions over the rusted and informed their father who reported the matter to the police.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has constantly addressed modernising Kenya's security sector, from the military to the police. 

On January 17, 2020, he announced a new strategy that would deal with terror groups in the country. 

The new structure would focus on areas such as multi-agency coordination, advanced training and equipment upgrades, community involvement and incentives for security officers.

"We understand that in a dynamic operating environment characterized by emerging and asymmetrical threats, investment in modern technology and cutting-edge training is instrumental for 21st Century law enforcement," Kenyatta added on Thursday, November 19, 2020, while speaking in Kitui County.
