Jubilee and ODM Parties have reaped big from the latest cash released by the National Treasury from the Political Parties Fund.

Jubilee has received Ksh 353,856,428 while ODM has received Ksh 165,252,076 according to the latest Kenya Gazette notice.

Only ODM and Jubilee Party met the constitutional threshold employed to award funds according to the Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu.

In the gazette notice, the funds released are supposed to cater for the second, third, and fourth quarters.

“Only two political parties have met the constitutional threshold to get the public money through the Political Parties Fund," Nderitu told the Standard.

The money released it supposed to be used by both ODM and Jubilee to run their political parties' activities.

According to the exchequer, ODM is entitled to about Ksh 260 million while Jubilee is expected to receive in excess of Ksh 500 million.

The release of funds to the two parties conforms to the Political Parties Act 2011 which sets aside 0.3 percent of the national government revenue to finance activities of political parties.

The release of funds comes when NASA principals are fighting ODM to get a share of the funds released under their coalition.

Musalia Mudavadi(ANC), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), and Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya) have been pushing to get a share of the funds under the agreement that brought them together in April 27, 2017.

ANC Deputy party leader Ayub Savula said that the money ODM was receiving was due to the combined efforts by the co-NASA principals.

He insisted that the party will continue pushing to get a share of the funds.

“We will not go that direction they want us to take us to. This thing was a collective effort as NASA. The seats ODM won was because of the collective effort we put as a coalition and has to be shared out.

Wiper through their Deputy Party leader Mutula Kilonzo Jr argued that the Registrar of Political Parties needs to inform the public on the formula which was used to arrive at the figures remitted to ODM and Jubilee.
