KTN news anchor Sophia Wanuna has been promoted following the exit of Peter Opondo who was Standard Media Group's Strategy and Content Editor.
An internal memo signed by Ochieng Rapuro, the Editor in Chief at the media house, indicated that Wanuna would take charge of the segment until further notice.
Wanuna took over the role on Thursday, July 15.
"Last Friday, our Editor Broadcasting Peter Opondo left the company to pursue other interests...
"Editorial staff are hereby notified to collaborate with Ms Wanuna for purposes of keeping our broadcast operations and our promise to deliver quality, in-depth and timely content to the consumer on course," reads an excerpt of the memo.
Wanuna has been an anchor at the station as well as the Deputy Editor at the Political Desk.
On Friday, July 16, Opondo's services were terminated by the media house on grounds of unsatisfactory performance.
"This past week, the Standard Group PLC sacked me. I have worked for many employers over the past 20 years...it is the first time I am terminated for "unsatisfactory performance".
"There was no formal appraisal or feedback, there was no documentation or minutes about my alleged performance shortcomings, there was never discussion with or feedback from my boss, there was no PIP. Just a sacking letter," reads an excerpt posted on Linkedin by the Media Strategist..
