The Kenya Railways Corporation on Wednesday, July 28, encouraged passengers to plan in advance and arrive at the Nairobi and Mombasa termini early to avoid missing their trains.

In a statement, Kenya Railways explained that the ongoing construction of the Nairobi Expressway in Nairobi and the Makupa Bridge alongside Approach Road in Mombasa was making it difficult for commuters to access the termini.

"...Access to Nairobi and Mombasa Termini has been affected. Passengers are encouraged to arrive at the Termini early," reads an excerpt of the statement.

From Nairobi to Mombasa, some of the passengers travelling to Athi River, Emali, Kibwezi, Mtito Andei, Voi, Miasenyi and Mariakani risk being affected.

From Mombasa to Nairobi, commuters going to Mariakani, Masenyi, Voi, Mtito Andei, Kibwezi, Emali and Athi River would also be affected.

President Uhuru Kenyatta's government has used millions to ensure the revamp of the train services in order to offer an alternative to road transport.

This has seen Kenya Railways introduce services such as bus transport, cattle transport services in order to woo customers to use rail transport.

Research by Tifa on July 27, 2021, revealed that the launch of infrastructure projects including the Standard Gauge Railway were positive aspects of the president's legacy.

In January, the corporation introduced a Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) midnight train service from Nairobi to Mombasa and vice versa.

The introduction was necessitated by an increase in demand due to schools reopening.

Commuters have been using the service in the wake of curfew hours to get to their destinations more conveniently.
