Police Capture Gang Behind Theft of 20 Cars

Police officers in Lanet, Nakuru County, flushed out two individuals who are part of a syndicate that has been stealing motor vehicles.

Samuel Kamau Nyambura (35) and John Kimani Waweru (25) were ambushed from their hideout after police got a tip off from members of the public.

Nakuru East Deputy sub-county Police Commander Phantom Analo confirmed the incident stating that officers recovered spare parts, car keys and 20 vehicle trackers during the raid.

"We had some leads and we were able to arrest 2 suspects. They led us to their hideout in Lanet area at a place called Tumsifu.

"We were able to recover some accessories of 20 assembled tracking devices belonging to around 20 vehicles," Analo stated.

Police officers have launched investigations into the matter and have urged members of the public to volunteer any information of victims affected by car theft in the area.

According to data by the Association of Kenya Insurers, car thieves target car brands and models that are popular in the market. This is because they make it easier to get new buyers.

Toyota brands are the most stolen vehicles followed by Isuzu, Nissan and Mitsubishi as the second, third and fourth respectively.

Others are; Mazda, Scania, Subaru, Mercedes Benz, Honda, Volkswagen, Suzuki, Chevrolet close the list of most targeted cars.

White vehicles are also among those widely stolen (46.81%), while silver cars come in second at 31.53% and black ones are a distant third at 6%.
