Kenyans will have to wait a bit longer to know whether the government will scrap off the dusk to dawn curfew imposed by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe on Wednesday, July 28 2021, stated that experts were having consultations and they will advise the government on whether the curfew will be extended or otherwise.
The CS was speaking in Nairobi where he noted that Covid-19 patients in isolation and in ICUs have dropped significantly in areas where the government imposed movement restrictions.
"On the issue of the dusk to dawn curfew, our experts are still sitting down and discussing and advising us on what should happen in the next two days in terms of extension or otherwise... we will review the dusk to dawn curfew and see what is best fr the country," the Health CS stated.
President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday, June 29, announced a month long 7pm-6am curfew in six counties. He also extended the 10pm to 4am curfew for another 60 days.
He also maintained that 13 Counties that had been declared as hotspots would continue with their curfew from 7pm to 4am until July 31, 2021.
The Counties included; Homa Bay, Migori, Kisumu, Siaya, Busia, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet and Trans Nzoia.
Other than the 13 Counties, the president stated that in-person worship shall continue, keeping with the 1/3 capacity rule and in accordance with the guidelines of the interfaith council.
The prohibition against public gatherings was also extended for a further 60 days. All persons coming into the country were asked to be armed with a negative Covid-19 PCR certificate, acquired not more than 96 hours prior to arrival.
Uhuru directed that cremation and other interment ceremonies be conducted 96 hours after confirmation of death.
"The PCR Certificate should be validated under the Trusted Travel platform for those travelling by air. That the attendees, officiators and facilitators of funerals or graveside cremation ceremonies shall be limited to 100 persons in total," he emphasised.
All hospitals were directed to limit the number of visitors for hospitalized patients to one visitor per patient per day.
"That all other rules, guidelines, and protocols not reviewed through this Public Order shall continue to apply until otherwise notified," the president noted.
