President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday, August 10, met ODM leader Raila Odinga and principal members of the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) at State House in Mombasa.

The President invited the OKA principals who included Wiper Party’s Kalonzo Musyoka, Gideon Moi of KANU, Musalia Mudavadi of ANC, and Moses Wetangula of Ford-Kenya. Kakamega Governor and ODM Deputy Party Leader Wycliffe Oparanya was also in attendance.

President Uhuru and his invited guests discussed various subjects, including the impact of the virus on the country, maintaining peace, unity, and national cohesion, as well as matters of revamping the economy.

The agenda of the meeting is reported to also have been about Uhuru's wish of uniting the five, in order to form a formidable team to face Deputy President William Ruto in 2022, who has fallen out with the President.

The meeting happened days after Mudavadi, Wetangula, and Kalonzo exited the National Super Alliance (NASA), citing bullying and betrayal by the ODM party, and joined OKA for the upcoming 2022 elections.

“The Head of State was concerned by the disunity exhibited by the Opposition politicians, and wanted to implore upon them to forge a united outfit that would compete against the DP,” revealed a Government official about Uhuru's secret meeting.

Ford Kenya Organising Secretary Chris Mandu had earlier confirmed that Ford Kenya party leader, Moses Wetangula, had received an invitation to the meeting in Mombasa.

The OKA principals had been informed that the meeting would also focus on matters affecting the country, besides the plot to form a united front against Ruto.

The President is reported to have been pushing for a united opposition against his deputy, and many have been waiting to see who gets his endorsement in the 2022 General Election.

The DP is understood to be ready to face his opponents in the 2022 presidential elections without forming a coalition.

Ruto has been in the headlines in the past week, following the saga involving his Turkish associate Harun Aydin, who was deported to Turkey on Sunday, August 9.
