President Uhuru Kenyatta has nominated five people for appointment as members of the Teacher Service Commission (TSC).
The five include Nicodemus Anyang, Christine Kahindi, Sharon Jelagat Kisire, Annceta Wafukho, and Salesa Adano Abudo.
The five were nominated upon the President's receipt of the report of the nine-member selection panel.
The names have now been forwarded to the National Assembly for vetting and approval in line with the TSC Act No.20 of 2012 that stipulates that the nominees ought to be approved by the Members of Parliament.
Upon receiving the names, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Justin Muturi, referred them to the Departmental Committee on Education chaired by Busia Woman MP, Florence Mutua.
The Education Committee is slated to deliberate and assess the suitability of the nominees and give a report to Parliament within 21 days.
Muturi asked the committee to speed up the vetting process as the August House is set to go on recess from Friday, August 20.
"To these Honourable Members, noting that the House will proceed on its normal long recess from Friday, August 20, in accordance with its published calendar," Muturi informed the House.
"The Committee should expeditiously notify the nominees and the general public of the time and place for holding the approval hearings and thereafter, upon the conclusion of the hearings and the adoption of its report, submit the same to enable the House to consider the matter within the statutory timelines."
The five nominees, if approved by the National Assembly, will replace Beatrice Adu, Mbarak Twahir, Kinoti Imanyara, Albert Ekirapa and Tache Gollo, whose terms expired on Friday, March 19.
