Jane Muthoni, the convicted wife of murdered Kiiru Boys High school principal Solomon Mwangi, has revealed the hard times she has had to endure after the demise of her husband.
According to Muthoni, her close friends and relatives had drained the joint bank accounts held between her and her husband. They also attempted to disinherit her of her children.
Muthoni, a former Icaciri secondary school principal, is currently serving a 30-year sentence at Lang'ata Women's prison in Nairobi for the murder of her husband Mwangi, with whom they had enjoyed a 21-year marriage.
“I have lost everything that I worked for, including my family and career, but I have faith that justice will prevail,” she stated.
Further, Muthoni maintained that she was innocent despite receiving the 30-year sentence. She entailed that she loved her husband too much to kill him.
"I loved Solomon too much to harm him. It might not be today but one day the truth will be known,” she pointed out.
The accused also pointed out that Mwangi's family still faulted her for the murder. According to Muthoni, some of her in-laws and colleagues accused her of being a problematic wife - claims which she disputed.
Mwangi's first cousin, Stephen Mbae had alleged that Jane Muthoni was a very aggressive person.
“Jane is very aggressive. She did everything to defend her family, but we never thought she would go to the extent of killing,” Mbae stated.
Mwangi's sister, Mary Mwangi also affirmed her relief that justice had finally been served. "I'm yet to heal from the tragic end," Mary stated.
However, Muthoni's elder sister, Rachael Muthoni disputed claims that her sister had an aggressive nature.
"It can't be my sister. She has been framed and convicted wrongly," she entailed.
Initially, during court sessions, the prosecution sought life imprisonment for Muthoni but her daughter June Mbithi pleaded with the court for a lighter sentence, arguing that her mother was the family's sole provider.
"We all want justice for my father. He was my best friend, but the absence of my parents has been so hard for my siblings and I for the past 5 years. We request the court to have mercy on my mum.
"I know it can't be undone, but we don't have anyone we can fully rely on. All that time, we have been depending on third parties like relatives and friends," she stated in court.
