Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua on Sunday evening, August 15, issued a statement on his separation from former Machakos First Lady Lillian Nganga.
The Governor intimated that their separation was imminent and that the two were not destined together.
"There is a song by Roger Whittaker that has the line: “the first time we said hello, we started to say goodbye.”
Mutua confirmed that the two have been separated over the last two months.
"Lillian and I have been a blessing to each other. Two months ago, we decided to slowly disengage. We are on amicable terms and remain very close as friends. We will continue to talk, meet and share ideas constantly," the Governor's statement read in part.
Mutua went on to say that Lilian would be a close advisor to him as Governor for Machakos County, and as he ran for President in next year's General Election.
"She will be a close advisor as I Govern Machakos County and run for President because I trust her sharp insight and heart. She has always been my number one fan. Our love for each other is permanent but I think at times, space and new directions are important."
The county boss thanked his wife for being what he described as an excellent First Lady, revealing that the two would be collaborating on some project.
"Lillian has been an excellent First Lady and even though she will do some projects under the Lillian Nganga foundation, we have agreed she can continue with her county projects," noted Mutua.
He also thanked his ex-wife for the many years they had spent together, and the contribution she had made in his growth as an individual and as a politician.
"I thank God for bringing Lillian into my life and the many ways we have made each other grow. We have had a laugh and at times a tear but all in all we have been a power couple and very happy. We celebrate life and are pleased that we have reached this decision in a mature, agreeable manner," noted Mutua.
The governor closed by saying that he was a happy and blessed man as the two have agreed to protect and support each other going forward, despite their amicable separation.
Mutua's response came barely hours after Lillian announced on social media that the two had decided to part ways.
