Kenyan legendary marathoner Eliud Kipchoge has received a warm welcome at Barcelona Football Club.

Kipchoge emerged nearly two weeks after his last public appearance at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on August 11.

A photo seen by Kenyans.co.ke showed the Kenyan greatest of all time posing for a photo with Barcelona's women football team.

The photo was taken before the team faced Olympic Lyonnais women in the finals of the Women's International Champion's Cup in Portland, Oregon on August 18.

Above the photo, there was the caption with a waving hand emoticon and the slogan '#GoBarça'. The photo was shared on their official page and elicited reactions from Kenyans.

This, after Kipchoge missed in the contingent that met President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House, Mombasa on Monday, August 16.

The athletes were presented with medals by the Head of State as well as cash rewards.

Kenyans marvelled at the idea of having one of the country's greatest athletes being associated with one of the world's greatest football clubs.

"Take good care of our gem," and "Champion appreciates champion," were among the public statements made by Kenyans in response to the viral photo.

Another Kenyan asked the club to sign him as the team's fitness trainer.

Eliud Kipchoge has maintained quite a low profile following his record at the Olympics. After a brief press address to the media at JKIA, the marathoner has not had any public appearance save for two tweets on his official Twitter account.

In the first, he shared a video stating that wearing the Kenyan kit is a source of pride and commitment to collective greatness.

His latest tweet is a photo of him in a tracksuit where he disclosed that he was on his way to catch up with his partnering sports company and meet fellow athletes.
