New details have emerged on the death of Kenya's best student in the 2012 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Tony Edgar Odongo.
In his eulogy, the family gave more details on how their kin was found with deep cut wounds and would later succumb to his injuries at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Hospital.
According to Standard, the family revealed that Odongo left home on August 10, 2021, evening to go for a walk and he was not home some minutes to 10pm when his brother called him to inquire about his whereabouts.
Odongo informed the brother that he was within the neighbourhood and he will be home soon. However, he did not show up and the family called him again and this time his phone was off.
The brother called a friend who had earlier met with Odongo and he could not reach him. The family stated that they were worried about their kin who would normally be home before the 10pm curfew.
A friend of Odongo's was driving from Waondo to Homa Bay Town when he noticed a familiar figure at the stage. He slowed down and realised it was Odongo who was injured.
The family confirmed that the friend identified as Jose could not ascertain the extent of their son's injuries but Odongo whispered his mother's number to the friend.
His mother asked the friend to rush him to Homa Bay District Hospital and the doctors opted to transfer him to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Hospital in Kisumu.
He was admitted to the casualty wing where he succumbed to the injuries.
“I received the communication from his immediate brother who told me that Tony had passed away. He had suffered deep wounds in the head and the body."
“The bruises were so deep but we are not yet aware whether the injuries were inflicted by assailants or after an accident. His family are currently with the body at Jaramogi Referral Hospital," his step-brother, Odongo Odol, told Kenyans.co.ke on Thursday, August 12.
