While Tiktok is predominantly a platform for younger audiences, the much older generation is also becoming increasingly active on the social platform.

This has been demonstrated by Nyeri Governor, Mutahi Kahiga, whose Tiktok account has elicited mixed reactions from netizens over his perceived conduct, coming from the person of the Governor.

Kahiga, whose first Tiktok video was posted on June 19, 2021, has garnered over 8,000 likes with his most-watched video recording over 50,000 views.

The video shows the governor donning a casual long-sleeve shirt, giving his audience a descriptive image of the cold weather - a video that has received lots of engagement due to the perceived comical nature.

"Good evening, it's another chilly night, pretty cold and I'm here trying to do a fire because it's really cold. Hope we can make it better. Well, thank you," Kahiga says in the video.

The video attracted reactions from many of his followers, with some making fun of him and his knowledge of the platform.

"What is doing a fire? And when is the Nyeri Governor coming back from 'Chile' ?" one user commented.

Other videos show the governor trying lip-syncs on traditional music.

While a section of his followers laud him for stepping out of his comfort zone and adjusting to the current trends, others have poked fun at him and how he depicts himself through the usage of the platform.

"Nyeri to the world. Our Governor is officially the best Kenyan Tik Toker. He's the best content creator in Kenya. He is so young and we call him Governor Digital Kahiga," one of his followers commented.

" A whole governor who is almost 60 years doing things on TikTok?" a user wondered.

Currently, Tiktok boasts of being the most downloaded social medial application worldwide, unseating global giant, Facebook. The app has over 2.6 billion downloads so far.

As the 2022 General Election draws near, politicians will go the extra mile in a bid to woo young Kenyans to join their camps.

Recently, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) released a song dubbed, ODM is prepared, composed in Gengetone beats and sheng lyrics in a move to entice more young Kenyans to join the party.
