Six people were killed and several others injured in a fatal road crash along the Nairobi - Nakuru highway on Wednesday, August 25.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Nakuru East Sub-County Police Commander Elena Kabukuru disclosed that police officers launched a manhunt for the truck driver who is now at large.

"As of yesterday, police were looking for the driver. He escaped after causing the accident," Kabukuru revealed.

Eyewitnesses say the driver of the Nairobi-bound truck lost control of the vehicle and collided with the oncoming van. The truck, which was reportedly on high speed, hit the van on the driver's side, causing it to ram onto the guard rails.

Among those killed on the spot was the van's driver.

In a public comment, one person known to the driver expressed shock as disbelief after learning of the incident.

"You've taken my family to shags - referring to upcountry[sic] several times. Tomorrow you were to bring the ones to half term. I'm not believing this!" he stated.

The van was headed to Kimilili in Trans Nzoia from Nairobi while the van was on its way to Nairobi.

The wreckage of the two vehicles were towed to Nakuru Central Police Station even as the bodies' identification process begins. The injured ones are receiving treatment at the Nakuru Level V Referral Hospital.
