A man was today, September, 3 arrested by police in Nyeri for impersonating the GSU officers and extorting the locals.

According to the authorities, the man has been engaging in the criminal act during curfew hours. The police say he often wears GSU uniform and arrests locals before forcing them to buy their freedom.

The locals say, from around 10 pm, the man dresses in full police uniform and goes round, arresting unsuspecting members of the public.

Fed up locals reported the matter to the police, who then arrested the suspect at his home.

“We have arrested one criminal who has been terrorizing people at night in uniform,” the Nyeri County Police Commander, Adriel Nyange mentioned.

Upon being questioned, the suspect said he got the uniform from his brother, who retired from the General Service Unit a while back.

The police have, however, mentioned that the man does not work alone. They have launched a manhunt for his accomplices and other partners in crime.

“He also has other people whom they work with as a team. He is going to tell us who the other people are, and we can assure you that the cartel will be dismantled,” Nyange said.

While lauding community policing, the police promised to continue working with citizens to bring to book such miscreants.

“We want to thank the members of the public for the information that they have given us, and if they continue giving us this kind of information, the crime rate will reduce,” the police commander remarked.

The suspect is currently in police custody, awaiting to be arraigned, even as the authorities hunt down his accomplices.
