A Somali scholar, Abdiwahab Sheikh Abdiswamad, was on Wednesday, September 8, accosted by four men along Turbman road next to City Market in Nairobi's Central Business District.
Eye witnesses recounted that four men disembarked a white double cabin pick up, handcuffed him and forced him into the vehicle before speeding off.
Family members have asked the government to help trace their missing kin, saying that he did not have any known enemies.
"If he has done any wrong, which he has never because he has never been in police custody before, they can take him to the court," Halima Mohammed, the scholar's wife stated.
The 55-year-old's sister, Faiza Sheik, disclosed that the family had made a report at the Central Police Station in Nairobi and Akila police station. They also revisited the scene of incident but were yet to get more information regarding his whereabouts.
Close family members suspect that he might have been done an analysis on the Horn of Africa region that was not taken well by some individuals.
"Our biggest concern is that we do not know if he is in the hands of criminal gangs, whether he has been eliminated, whether he is in police custody or some other agency custody," Ahmed Hashi, a friend cited.
Human rights Organisation, Haki Africa, has vowed to file an application seeking to compel authorities to produce the scholar dead or alive.
"Even if it is not the police, it is still the duty of the police to search for him and make sure that he has been found," Hussein Khalid, the authority's executive director stated.
The family is requesting any person who sees or knows of his whereabouts to contact Haki Africa.
