Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata was the centre of attention after he was blocked from addressing the Senate by Speaker Kenneth Lusaka.

During the Senate proceedings held on Tuesday, September 14, the Senators were discussing issues regarding the curfew rules enforced by the government and the extent to which security forces have gone in order to enforce the stipulated regulations.

At the time, Kang'ata, who was participating through video conferencing platform, requested to address the Senate.

He appeared with his audio on although the rules require that the video must be on for a member to participate.

Speaker Lusaka, however, insisted that the Senator turn on his camera and when he eventually did, his location was immediately flagged off.

"We can now see you, but where are you?" Lusaka posed.

"I'm in my office, Mr. Speaker," Kang'ata retorted.

"No, no, no, no that's not an office, Senator Kang'ata. I'm sorry, we cannot allow that, the rules are very clear on where you should be, so you are out of order," Lusaka affirmed.

The Senate speaker informed Kang'ata that he would give him a chance to address the Senate once he is in an appropriate place.

The cameras covering the proceedings did not show Kang'ata's location but he would later hint that he had participated while in a car.

The Murang'a Senator took heed of the Speaker's words and once he arrived in parliament, he issued an apology.

"First is to apologise Mr. Speaker for being in an office which has a safety belt," Kang'ata stated before proceeding with his statement on the order of the day.

The Senate proceedings have been known to be filled with drama from time to time with the leaders pulling several stunts during the debates.

From impeachments to debates on bills, the senators go all out in addressing key issues affecting the country.
