Kirinyaga Governor, Anne Waiguru on Friday, September 17 turned down all the running mate offers that various presidential candidates for the 2022 General Election have been enticing her with.

The embattled governor confessed she had received numerous offers to be a possible running mate to leading contenders, but declared she is only interested in recapturing her current seat as governor for Kirinyaga.

Speaking to the press, Waiguru thanked all the leading politicians who had expressed confidence in her and offered her an opportunity to be their running mate.

She, however, said she was only focused on re-election and so far not going to commit to any presidential candidate.

“At this point in time, I am seeking to be re-elected as governor of Kirinyaga County. The day the position changes, I will make it public,” the governor remarked.

The governor has held meetings with a number of party leaders including ODM leader Raila Odinga, ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi and leader of Wiper Democratic movement, Kalonzo Musyoka.

Waiguru said she has met and had discussions with the leaders on matters of national importance and 2022 General Election and considered all their offers.

She, however, was quick to say she is currently on the ground, already campaigning for the position of Kirinyaga governor, and she welcomes all other aspirants in the race.

Waiguru said despite the big position of running mate, her decision will be based on what the people on the ground need, and what is best for her as well.

“I have not given any commitment to anybody. I am listening a lot on the ground. In due course, I will make it clear where I stand because I still have to analyze my decisions,” Waiguru remarked, in regard to the political party she will use.

This comes after Waiguru held a meeting in Kirinyaga with Woman Representative Purity Ngirici, Narc Kenya leader, Martha Karua, and Interior Principal Secretary, Karanja Kibicho on Tuesday, September 14.

Among the things they discussed, they agreed that they will hold competitive and fair gubernatorial campaigns.
